When the TRANSVAAL CASTLE was designed in the late 1950s the company decided they wanted to try a one class ship

originally Union-Castle's KENYA CASTLE of 1952

Beginning in the mid-1970s the ships were sent to the wreckers and by the end of the decade they were all gone

The GUADALUPE had mid-century modern interiors and boasted the then-unusual feature of private verandahs for many First Class cabins

By the mid-1970s the remainder of the ships were downgraded to cargo only and by 1979 they were all scrapped

Interesting to note that each is postmarked from Panama rather than their New York departure day
