Natural Thundercloud MarquiseThundercloud Stone is a unique gem that's new to us. Found in and around a few turquoise mines in China, this material was overlooked until someone took a chance on it. Initial testing has shown that some of this material has opalized in its formation and is comprised primarily of calcium calcite and iron. This combination creates a fiery and smoky gemstone that is all natural.

Most of us think of those celestial stones with fiery colors when we think of opal

This gemstone is typically crushed for it's iron content much the same way Bisbee turquoise was for copper

Mined only during winter due to environmental constraints

often accented with intricate brecciated patterns

For this reason we had our material fracture sealed with a very low viscosity treatment but the green Variscite is untouched and has no enhancements

and pattern
