The Bass & Paint and Bass & Dance explorations in improvisation during the summer of 2020 took Jim, Paul and Yali into exciting new artistic worlds where they were able to let each other’s artistic gestures fuel and drive their own imagination, spontaneity, and expressive impulses.  All three felt that their perceptions and capacities to communicate at a deep level of expressive essence were being enriched.  The summer 2021 trio collaborations combining Bass, Dance & Paint ventured into an even more awesomely wild and unchartered world of challenge and potential.   Through improvisation, the dancer, painter, and double bassist are finding a tri-dimensional language of expression rooted in spontaneous communication, receptivity, and understanding.

“On the Patio” was part of an outdoor concert that Jim Jordan, Yali Rivlin, and Paul Erhard performed in September, 2023. The concert included bass/saxophone/painting, bass/painting, and bass/dance/painting pieces. “On the Patio” is a free improvisation, spontaneous responding to each other without any “text” or idea to serve as an inspirational focal point.
