Since the first weeks of TIME ART SPACE ART in 2019, Paul Erhard has explored collaborated with photographers. Paul’s process for creating musical renditions of photographs involves first looking at a photo, feeling a connection with the subject, and then with his double bass in hand, allowing melodic ideas to emerge that for him reflect the essence he perceives in the photo. Different sections of a photo often generate different musical responses. An audio recorder keeps track of Paul’s improvisations. Paul transcribes the improvisations, makes occasional edits, leading to a final composition that Paul records. Paul has created single image compositions as well as videos containing multiple images.
