“DRYING”
Paul first met Dr. Chip Thomas at a talk Dr. Thomas gave at the University of Colorado in January 2024 about his work as a physician and photographer for 36 years in the Navajo Nation. Visiting Dr. Thomas’ website jetsonorama.net Paul chose one photograph titled “Drying” and began the process of expressing in musical sounds his feelings/reactions while looking at each of the two senior and one younger member of the Navajo Nation in the photo. Using the notes of the minor pentatonic scale common to Native American music, the music begins and closes with the viewer being in the open, dry landscape at dusk viewing the small building with three very large photographs plastered to two sides.
